The A’shriari are convinced that the only way to complete victory is a brutal “scorched earth” military strategy. Their massive mothership is capable of burning entire planets, vaporizing all means of sustaining life.

NEW FACTIONS
Cycle of Warfare brings five new playable factions, new ways to play the game and exponentially increased replayability which combined offers more than 100 hours of new Conquest and Scenario gameplay.

In the Cycle of Warfare DLC you are able to start the conquest over the Gemini system as one of three other established factions, each contending with their own rivals and advantages; Iolian Pact, Korkyra and Outerlands.

These conquest scenarios can be easily modified in-game to allow the players to customize their own starting advantage as they see fit.

Aside from regular conquest, Cycle of Warfare brings two amazing “challenge scenarios” for more experienced players:

Play as the A’shriari. The unforgiving alien race bent on humanity’s extinction.
… or choose the life of an ambitious privateer and lead your clan to wealth and glory.

Both challenges modify the game’s rules in different ways, moving away from empire management towards riskier gameplay.

Starpoint Gemini Warlords, the space strategy-slash-RPG from LGM Games, just got a major update. Dubbed “update 2.0”, it completely reworks the diplomacy system, letting you interact with AI entities in new and exciting ways. If you’ve already played the game, you might want to take it for another spin – the developers claim it’s a vastly different experience. If you haven’t had the chance but it sounds like you might like it, be sure to check out Serge’s impressions.

The patch notes don’t go into much detail, sadly. The factions have been the subject of a lot of changes. There’s now a war dialogue, that lets factions hail you, declare war on you, ask to become your ally and more. They’ll also react when you try to connect to their satellites. Friendlies and neutrals will try to be nice – if you lose a station, they might offer to reclaim it for you. If you loose ships, they might offer to compensate your loss. All factions will now react if you start or end Proxima research, start a planetary assault or build a shipyard. It should all make the AI seem more alive. Here are some choice words from Nikola Jukic, project manager at LGM:

Starpoint Gemini Warlords is a great game on its own, although players always wanted to have more abilities and more options when it comes to diplomacy with other factions. That is why we wanted to do a complete diplomacy overhaul for the game, from the ground up. Of course, this isn’t something that happens overnight. Diplomacy overhaul was a long process. We had to break things apart, put a lot of updates and fixes in the middle, and put them back together in order to make everything work as intended.

Other changes include better and more numerous hints, that should make it easier for new players. There’s also the improved gamepad support, better font kerning which should help with readability, as well as some performance improvements. Zeljko Kos, chief technical officer at LGM, is very proud of them:

We have a large part of current players who adore the game, and on the other hand, new players who get stuck early on in Starpoint Gemini Warlords. Current players already know how to approach the game, and what to do. But we wanted to change how the game fundamentally feels for the new players. There is a lot of new hints and guides which tell you where to go now, what this and that mean on the user interface, what are these icons on the Starchart, what to do next, etc. The game now feels a lot user-friendly, in a way you can simply pick it up and play.
