Guide to Fate/Stay Night by /u/AdelKoenig

The old guide is dead. Long live the Guide!

Fate/Stay Night (F/SN) is a Japanese visual novel produced in 2004 by Type-Moon as an adult game for Windows. In 2007, Fate/Stay Night Réalta Nua was released as an updated version for PS2 with a rating for ages 15 and up.

Download Fate Tiger Colosseum PSP PPSSPP. Fate/Tiger Colosseum is a 3D action fighting video game based on the visual novel Fate/stay night, developed by Cavia Inc. And published by Capcom, which was released in Japan in 2007.

F/SN was written by Kinoko Nasu, and covers the story of Emiya Shirou during the 5th Holy Grail War in the city of Fuyuki, Japan. The full VN takes an estimated 50-60 hrs to read, similar to 120 episodes of a 25min anime.

Routes

F/SN is divided into 3 routes: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. These are three separate stories on parallel timelines, with sequential themes.

  • 1st Route - Fate

Theme: 'Oneself as an ideal'

This path is both an introduction route and Saber's route.
In Fate we are given most of the god-tier world-building the author Nasu is known for. It also tells the complete story about Saber, who she is, and what she is after by taking part in the war.

  • 2nd Route - Unlimited Blade Works (UBW)

Theme: 'Struggling with oneself as an ideal'

This is both the Archer and Tohsaka Rin route.
Most of the mysteries left unanswered in the Fate scenario are revealed and things start to go very 'wrong' in this route. The reveals in UBW makes you re-think everything you knew about the previous story.

  • 3rd Route - Heaven's Feel (HF)

Theme: 'The friction with real and ideal'

This is both the conclusion act and Matou Sakura's route.
The increasing development of Emiya Shirou's character reaches its final act. If you thought things went wrong in UBW, this route laughs at it and redefines what the word 'wrong' means.

Versions, Translations, and Patches

In 2012, the Realta Nua version was released as three separate .exe files (one per route) for Windows.
Realta Nua changes:

  • Adult content was removed (age rating is approximately 15+), with erotic scenes replaced with alternate scenes,

  • Fully voice acted,

  • A bonus ending called 'Last Episode' once all 5 endings have been completed,

  • Many new event CGs (with some of the original art assets touched up as well),

  • Around 20 new BGM tracks,

  • New and more dynamic animation effects in many scenes,

  • Different OP videos than original version,

  • Text is generally edited for quality, as well as to meet age rating.

The game has never been officially released in English. It was fan translated by the group mirror-moon.

/u/jacktheinfinite101 and Koto have made a patch for Realta Nua PC that is hosted on Beast Lair's forums. Their patch combines the original version, Realta Nua, and an English translation.
Jack & Koto's patch features:

  • English translations,

  • The choice between the original H-Scenes or the Realta Nua alternate scenes,

  • The option to view de-censored images,

  • Can choose 2007 release or remixed 2012 release background music by track,

  • Has all the OP videos from both the original and Realta Nua,

  • A switch to view the original violence/abuse related content without having the H-Scenes turned on,

  • And many other features.

Jack and Koto's patch for Realta Nua is the best way to read the VN. See /u/torik0's F/SN VN Installation Guide for more info.

The Sequel & Prequel

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia (F/HA) is the 2005 visual novel sequel to F/SN. It has a complete translation. Installation information can be found at the bottom of the F/SN VN Installation Guide. F/HA is set 6 months after F/SN and is a mix of all the different F/SN endings. It can be read any time after finishing the 3 routes of F/SN.

Fate Zero (F/Z) is the 2006 light novel prequel to F/SN, written by Gen Urobuchi. F/Z develops the story of the 4th Holy Grail War that takes place in the same location but 10 years prior to the events of F/SN.

Anime Adaptations

In 2011, a 2 season anime adaptation for Fate/Zero was produced by Ufotable. F/Z was the first time that an anime got free streamed on a world wide scale subtitled in 8 different languages. Fate/Zero was very well received, qualified as 'magnificent' by most anime fans; it was one of the highest quality anime that ever aired on Japanese TV for its movie-like production values.

In 2014, Ufotable aired a 2 season anime adaptation of the 2nd F/SN route titled Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works].

Ufotable has also announced that it will be producing an animated film adaptation of Heaven's Feel. There will be three films with the first being released sometime in 2017.

DEEN made an anime adaptation of Fate/Stay Night in 2006. It used the Fate route as its base story, but tried to adapt all three routes into one. It is widely considered a bad adaptation, as the attempt to combine the routes only introduced spoilers without context, and it failed to characterize Shirou accurately.
It is recommended that you do not watch DEEN's Fate/Stay Night (2006), and if you do watch it, wait until after you've read the VN.

DEEN also made a movie adaptation of UBW in 2010. Because of time constraints, it is basically just the fight scenes without much context. It also suffers from the same problems as the anime series, such as terrible graphics.

Read/Watch Order

The only bad way into Fate/ is a way that doesn't make you want more. However, because of the relationship between F/SN and F/Z, some ways are better than others. In order to get the story in the intended sequence, and to prevent the most spoilers, here are some suggestions:

Recommended

  • F/SN visual novel -> Fate/Zero anime or LN -> UBW anime -> HF movies.

Anime only

  • UBW anime -> HF movies -> Fate/Zero anime, or

  • Fate/Zero anime -> UBW anime -> HF movies

Please note that F/HA can be read anytime after the 3 routes of F/SN.

If you choose to skip the VN, /r/FateStayNight has a VN walkthrough of the Fate route. It is not intended to be a replacement for the VN, but it is better than nothing.
There is also a fan edit that removes the UBW and HF spoilers from the DEEN anime.

FAQ

Why are there 2 anime only watch orders?

Fate/Zero was written with the intent that the readers have already played all 3 routes of the visual novel. It skims through the concept and rules of the world as it assumes they are already known. Fate/Zero will spoil several major character identities throughout F/SN.

Fate Tiger Colosseum English Patch Download Pc

That being said, Ufotable adapted the UBW anime with the thought that most viewers will have seen F/Z already. Zero first is a different experience than what was originally intended, but it will still be enjoyable. It will change your perspective on the characters and events while you read/watch F/SN. There are plenty of more twists and turns so don't let this detract you from reading/watching F/SN! If watching F/Z first, giving F/Z a rewatch once finished with the 3 routes of F/SN is recommended.

So, should I read the H-Scenes or the RN alternates?

This is a topic of some debate. Nasu is infamous for his terrible writing in H-Scenes. However, Realta Nua censored out all references to sex and abuse. This changes the story, especially in Heaven's Feel. The recommendation for those who don't want to see hilariously bad hentai, is to turn the H-scenes off for Fate, and UBW, but leave them on for HF, and use the skip function (ctrl) freely.

I have a MAC/Android, can I still read the VN?

Yes! If you use a Windows emulator, or program like WINE, you will be able to read the VN on a MAC. There are also ways to get it to work on Android. More information in the F/SN VN Installation Guide's FAQ for android, and this comment for MAC.

Are there any manga adaptations?

Yes, there are two.
The first is similar to the 2006 DEEN adaptation. It does not have a full translation, as the translation team got halfway though and thought it was too bad to be worth finishing it.
There is also a 2015 Heaven's Feel Manga. It seems to expect you to already know HF, as it has things from late in the route revealed in the prologue. It is currently being fan translated.

I watched Fate/Zero EP1 but I don't understand what's going on.

SettingEdit

The game is set on the Far Side of the Moon Cell, where BB used her abilities to create the Sakura Labyrinth. She brought over various Masters and Servants from the Moon Cell Holy Grail War on the Near Side, some taken instantly before their deletion and others brought during the sixth week. The story is more similar to a Sakura route like the Rin and Rani routes of Extra. It has been described as a kind of 'Heaven's Feel' route for the setting and similar to Fate/hollow ataraxia in nature.

GameplayEdit

Fate/Extra CCC has the same game mechanics as Fate/Extra with additional changes. The combat UI (user interface) has changed appearance and location. Players can now escape battles and dungeon floor level. Each servants has more combat animation and their Noble Phantasm animation changed. One of the noticeable changes is there are more voices recording in cutscenes.

Whereas each servant was tied to a difficulty in Fate/Extra, these two concepts are separate in CCC. When first launching the game, the player chooses one of three difficulties, then a servant with a fighting style: Saber is “standard”, Archer is “technical”, Caster is “maniac” and Gilgamesh is “cheat”.

Both genders of the Protagonist and the Servants will each have an alternate costume. There will be additional costumes for the Servants, and a save game from Fate/Extra will give the player character an alternate school gym outfit.

All of the Characters have a Secret Garden and Punish Start session (if you collect enough information on the SG). It shows the fetishes, likes, dislikes, etc. The Secret Gardens may be Male pictures (if you choose the female protagonist, except for your Servants and bosses) or Female Pictures (if you choose the male protagonist, except for your Servants and bosses).

Besides bad ends caused by game overs, the game has three possible endings: the CCC ending (commonly known as “True ending”, from the Fate/stay night routes system), Servant ending and normal ending. The CCC ending is unlocked by doing specific actions and selecting specific dialogue choices throughout the game. The Servant ending is unlocked by earning the three Secret Gardens for the starting servant (with the exception of Archer if the protagonist is male, who only needs two Secret Gardens since the third is locked for this specific configuration).

DevelopmentEdit

Fate/Extra CCC is a companion game of Fate/Extra, serving as the 'Heaven's Feel' route, that was announced in September 2011 for release in the winter of 2012. The official release date was pushed back a second time with its release date set at 21 February 21st, 2013. The second trailer states that the game's release date once again delayed to 28 March 2013. Unlike the prequel, Type-Moon promised the gamers that Fate/Extra CCC will have more voice acting.

It is confirmed to have the TYPE-MOON Virgin White Box as the Limited Edition of the game, which contains a Saber Bride figma, an artbook titled Fate/EXTRA CCC Visual Works, a sticker set of the chibi-sized four playable Servants, and a Saber Character CD with Sakura Tange, her voice actor, performed her three character songs. For those who pre-order the game will be rewarded Virgin Bride. Virgin Bride is a similar item with Fate/the Fact, only this time the contents are hinted to be a serial of movies, hinted as each characters' episodes.

It was planned around the time Fate/Extra went on sale, but put on hold until they knew if people wanted a sequel. Aside from the staff requesting Jinako Carigiri, Kinoko Nasu had far more free range with the story than with Extra, so he was able to write as he pleased. He feels the tone of the story is more seinen compared to Fate/stay night'sshonen feel. The reason for the delay is that the prototype version felt much like a rehash of the first game, so they decided to redo the environments from scratch after getting a two-month extension from the company. Nasu decided to expand the scenario, but it required another extension after he realized he couldn't make it in the two months. He believes that it will likely be his finale for writing the Fate series, not including other guest writers.[3]

StaffEdit

  • Kinoko Nasu as scenario writer.
  • Arco Wadaas character designer and artist.
  • Huke as weapon designer.
  • Takashi Takeuchi as character design supervisor.
  • SHAFT as the animation opening sequence producer.

MusicEdit

In the first trailer, Kanon Wakeshima performed the official theme song of the game titled 'Sakura Meikyuu' (サクラメイキュウ, Blossom Maze?),which was recorded in FoulPlay ni Kurari/ SAKURAMEIKYU and Fate/EXTRA CCC Original Soundtrack.

The original soundtrack of the game was first released at Anime Contents Expo 2013 on March 30, 2013, and it was publicly released April 5, 2013. The limited edition of the soundtrack contains three discs and a Blu-ray disc, and includes the special BOX style and Special booklet, 'CCC EXTRA Garden.'

MangaEdit

Fate/Extra CCCEdit

The game received two Manga adaptations. Fate/Extra CCC is an ongoing manga series, illustrated by Robi~na, the same comic artist for the Fate/Extra manga series, and published by Kadokawa Shoten. The manga was prepublished on June 10, 2015 in the Comptiq magazine and only three volumes are out at the moment. The first volume was released on April 26, 2016, the second on November 26, 2016 and the third on February 10, 2018.

In this manga iteration, the male Hakuno Kishinami is the main character with Saber acting as his Servant, just like in the Fate/Extra manga.

    Nasu:
At first I'd aimed for CCC to be something that can be enjoyed on its own, even more so with Extra. And that Extra can be enjoyed even more with CCC, like Fate/hollow ataraxia to Fate/stay night.
But as I wrote the scenario, I became aware of a desire to state the 'answer' of the Fate series, which has been continuing for almost ten years now.
After ten years, I finally realized that 'this is what I wanted to say with the Fate series.' If I'm able to complete this, then there'll no longer be anything left for me to say.
